PB Europe 2014

After dropping William off with his grandparents I headed to the PHX airport.
It just so happened to be the same day that terminal 4 was closed because there was a potential shooter hiding somewhere in the airport.  Thank goodness I was flying Delta out of terminal 3, so I was able to get through security and make my flight to SLC.  There I met Ben and we began our big adventure!  We flew on a red-eye from SLC- JFK and then from JFK-London. We arrived in London around 8 p.m. and by the time we made it to our B&B we were ready for bed.

The next morning was Saturday and we began our exploring in the busy city of London.  We took the tube to Notting Hill and headed to Portobello Market. We bought a few things and a treat at Hummingbird Bakery.  From there we rented bikes that we rode over to Buckingham Palace.  It was the changing of the guards and we had front row (standing) seats.

For lunch we grabbed some sandwiches from Pret A Manger and ate at Hyde Park by the lake.  After biking around Kensington Palace/gardens and the park we went to the British Museum.  Ben liked the sculptures from the Parthenon and the mummies.

Around 5:00 we decided we should look into tickets for a show that night.  We lucked out and got tickets to Matila that evening in the middle section.  After getting our tickets we made it to St. Paul's for evensong.  Ben was amazed by its' size and loved hearing the concert by the young boys.

We walked over the Milennium Bridge went to Nandos for dinner that night and headed to the theatre. Matilda was a lot of fun and the girl cast for the part was perfect with her British accent.  It differed from the movie but had a fun twist on the story line.  What a perfect way to end our first day in London. The bikes were very fun and efficient as we biked over ten miles and more than 70 minutes. We headed back to get some sleep and prepare for our journey to the Gatwick airport the next morning.
